Connecticut Pest Elimination, Inc Case Studies: Discovering and Treating a Rat Infestation in New Haven

Tuesday, August 28th, 2018 by Gina Ferrigno

We had a normal rodent service in New Haven. First, we spoke to the landlord about what was going on in this two-family home. The landlord stated that the tenants were seeing rodent droppings and hearing them in the walls. We then inspected the outside of the house and the yard. The house had a few possible entry points near a crawl space and along the foundation. In the backyard, there was a chicken coup with chicken food on the ground around the coup, which is a definite food source for rodents. After doing the outside inspection we went into the basement. As soon as we went into the basement we saw rat droppings that covered the basement floor, and also found two live rats. We set up bait stations and snap traps throughout the basement. We finished up our service inspecting both units and the attic, we did not notice any activity in the two units and light activity in the attic. We put bait stations in the attic as well. With the high number of droppings found in the basement, we recommended a one week follow up

When we returned for the follow up we discovered that we caught fifteen rats, which was the majority of the rat population in the house. We rebaited the bait stations and reset the snap traps. After doing the last included follow up, we did not find any more rats even though the baits were slightly eaten. The rat population in this house in New Haven was taken care of. Now we service the client on a quarterly basis since the initial service there have been no reports of any rodent activity.
