The largest ant found in Connecticut is the Carpenter Ant.
Wood destroying Carpenter Ants are usually black in color.
Occasionally, other Carpenter Ant species are found with colors
including reddish brown or yellow.  They vary in size form 1/4" to
7/16" and have a pinched waist between the thorax and the
abdomen. They live in social colonies that may contain
2000-3000 workers.

Carpenter ants may establish nests in a number of different
locations. It is important to realize that these locations can be
either inside or outside the structure. Carpenter ants actually
construct two different kinds of nests: parent colonies and satellite
colonies.  Parent colonies when mature contain an egg-laying
queen, a brood of 2000 or more worker ants. Satellite colonies
may have a large number of worker ants but no queen, eggs or
larvae. The carpenter ants inside a home may have originated
from the parent colony or from one or more satellite nests hidden
behind a wall in the kitchen or bathroom, or perhaps from wood
dampened by a roof leak in the attic. Alternatively,  ants may be
coming from the parent nest outside possibly located in a tree
stump, landscaped timber, or a woodpile.  Although carpenter
ants do not eat wood, they do excavate galleries to provide
shelter. As a colony increases the galleries can become
extensive enough to cause structural damage, usually in a
concentrated location. The key to prevention is to keep the wood
isolated from the ground, wooden parts of the building should be
kept well above ground level.

Our Solution

If you have carpenter ant activity in your house, contact us and
we will customize a treatment based the upon conditions found at
your home.  Typically, the treatment involves both the interior and
exterior of the structure.   Our technician will perform an inspection
to determine the location of the ant nest.  Once the nest is located
and treated a protective barrier will be established on the
perimeter of the building.  This will help prevent future intrusion by
ants and other insect pests.

We guarantee our Carpenter Ant treatments will remain
effective until the end of the year the treatment was applied.  If
ants reappear simply give us a call and we will return and retreat
as needed at no additional cost
